APPLICATION STRATEGY

Go from company discovery to a stronger application.

Use official career links, read location requirements, and turn a long list of employers into a focused shortlist.

Choose a useful starting point

Begin with the kind of work you want to do, not just a recognisable company name. Choose an industry, company stage, and pay band in WILSY. Search for skills you can demonstrate. Keep a small shortlist with a reason for each employer: a product you understand, a technical problem you enjoy, or a role that matches your experience.

Company region describes the employer profile. It is not a promise that a particular role accepts applications from your country. The salary example has its own location information.

Follow the recruiting link

The Careers button opens the company’s recruiting website or a recruiting platform linked by the company. Where WILSY uses an employer-maintained Y Combinator page, the button is labelled YC careers. You submit an application with that employer or platform; WILSY does not receive your résumé.

Read the destination and employer name before entering personal information. If a sampled job has closed, return to the company’s career hub and look for another suitable position. A closed salary source does not establish that the employer has stopped hiring altogether.

Read the eligibility details first

Check the work location, remote restrictions, employment type, required experience, and work-authorisation language. “Remote” can mean remote within one country or time zone. If sponsorship or relocation is not mentioned, ask rather than assuming it is available.

Then separate the job’s core requirements from useful extras. Pick two or three examples from your work that demonstrate the core requirements. Explain the problem, your contribution, and the outcome using evidence you can discuss in an interview.

Keep a simple application record

Record the company, role title, source URL, date applied, résumé version, and next step. This stops you from applying to the same position twice and makes follow-ups more specific. Save the job description for your own preparation because postings can change.

A strong application is tailored without being inflated. Use the employer’s terminology where it accurately describes your experience. Do not add skills or results you cannot substantiate.

Help keep the directory useful

If a company link is wrong or the quoted range no longer matches the source, use the correction link on its profile. Include the company name, the affected URL, and the employer’s replacement source. Do not send passwords, identity documents, or a résumé to report a directory error.
